Being utterly obsessed by American culture - and traveling in general - it doesn't take me long to come up with a summer plan. After our West coast road trip two years back I immediately started dreaming of future USA adventures. Weeks of debate followed and we decided to go just for it. Justified by the very philosophic motto that the best thing to spend money on is traveling the world ;) The result: two weeks in Miami (and probably the Keys). YEAH BABY! Going for it apparently also meant that we'll be staying at the most insane hotel in Coconot grove with a pool that overlooks the boats in the bay. (Rates for Miami aren't exactly favorable for July and since we were never gonna pull this one off low budget, this was a really good option). If you have any Miami tips to eat, go out, shop, sun and sightsee, please let me know. I'd appreciate it :D
First things first, though: preselecting my bikini's while listening to Will Smith's nineties classic Welcome to Miami on full volume. (The less classy I'm in Miami bitch does the trick as well).

Miami is geweldig! Lunchen in The News Café op Ocean drive is een must! En als je de kans hebt, ga naar Naples, de Gulf Coast is prachtig (Bonita beaches en Sanibel!) en in Estero zit de de allergaafste outlet die ik ooit gezien heb (Miromar outlets). Op de Keys: Hemingway House en (voor de liefhebber)Trumans Little White House.

i live a few months out of the year in miami as my brother has been living there for the past 8 years so i spend alot of time there and know my way around (and i was born in the netherlands, in hengelo specifically :) )
coconut grove is awesome but the best place to stay is def south beach, unless you are renting a car! cus then obviously you'll be able to drive to wherever you please.
for eating you HAVE to try
-Ice Box Cafe (between michigan ave and lincoln road, miami beach) (delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch!) (oprah apparently rated it as having some of the best cake around)
-PUBBELLY SUSHI (SO GOOD) (purdy avenue, miami beach)
-BURGERS AND BEER JOINT (bay road, miami beach)
-Sushi Samba (lincoln road,miami beach)
Sports bar and Grill (seriously hands down best wings you'll ever have) (it has various locations, they're all on the website www.sportsgrillmiami.com)
-Las Vacas Gordas (argentinian place, AMAZING meat) (933 normandy drive miami beach)
-Hillstone (great high end american food) (201 miracle mile, coral gables)
for shopping depends what you're looking for, if you want a good mall with loads of selection you're best off going to Aventura Mall, it's about a 20 min drive from miami beach, but totally worth it!
Go see Atrium and The Webster in miami beach, amazing clothes!!
then there is bal harbour mall which is a beautiful outdoor mall but pretty expensive as it has all the high end stores like saks, neiman marcus, celine, balenciaga etc. (drool)
and if you're staying in coconut grove you're very close to Merrick Park which is in Coral Gables, also a beautiful outdoor mall, def worth visiting!
Then the last thing i can suggest is go visit all the amazing hotels in miami beach and Brickell. especially the W, the standard, the delano, and the fontainbleau

Miami is beautiful!! Your defo going to enjoy the colourful city!! For breakfast be sure to dine alongside oceon drive and defo try Big Pink Diner for some american breakie. Their waffles are AMAZING!!
For shopping go to the Aventura Mall and also go to Lincoln road for some amazing shops!! Ohweee!!

If you wanna go shopping you really need to go to the sawgrass mills mall! its amazing. it has over 400 shops!
Zalig!! Wanneer ga je precies? :) Ik, mijn vriendje en zijn zus gaan deze zomer ook een kleine 3 weken naar miami in juli! (de nonkel van mijn vriend woont daar momenteel in verband met zijn job). Superhandige post dus, want nu kan ik stiekem alle tips ook gebruiken :)! Haha, de song van will smith heb ik trouwens ook al platgedraaid sinds de reis geboekt is :)!
you HAVE to have a burrito at Lime's Fresh Mexican <3 When I was in Miami for a week 2 years ago we ate there 4 times, thats how good it is!!

Oh great! I have an obsession for the US as well and I'm so lucky that I'm gonna study a semester abroad in Michigan next year! Miami is totally on my list as well, haha. You comment on spending money on traveling is so true, I think it really enriches you to travel a lot.

I'm so happy for you!! Miami is a wonderful place to spend a vacation!! Last time I also stayed in coconut grove at the Mayfair hotel and it was the absolute BEST location. You're not far from anything, south beach malls etc as I'm assuming you're renting a car:) There's two places I still dream about when I think of Miami. In Coconut grove there's a restaurant called Greenstreet, on friday night its fun to go there for a drink, the street basically fills up - their mango mojito and their angel hair pasta left me drooling! Highly recommend it! And last but not least.. Sushi Samba in South Beach - you HAVE to try this one out! It's japanese with brazilian kitchen, they make the sushi in the middle of the restaurant and it's freaking ah-ma-zing!!! I hope you'll have an amazing time - too bad July isn't here yet ey!

That's great your coming to my city!! I actually work in coconut grove. There are so many places for you to go but the essential are
1) South Beach- to go to the beach and then have lunch or dinner.
2) Design District - great places to eat like, SugarCane and El Mercadito.
3) Brickell - Has great nightclubs and bars.
